CF Centre Peer Review

Cystic Fibrosis Australia funds the Peer Review of CF Services in Australia as part of its committment to Quality Improvement (QI) Programs

The Peer Review is an ambitious and ground-breaking program that will guarantee consistent high quality Cystic Fibrosis health care from every Cystic Fibrosis Centre across Australia.

Currently, Cystic Fibrosis Centres have variable healthcare provision standards and inconsistent resources for providing Cystic Fibrosis care.  This is primarily due to limited clinic resources that are available.  There was previously  no independent monitoring of these clinics.

The Peer Review is a campaign to ensure the Standards of Care  Guidelines for Cystic Fibrosis care are followed by clinics across Australia as a benchmarking tool. The Peer Review program has now been performed and has evaluated all major specialist Cystic Fibrosis clinics in Australia against the comprehensive standards. Many of the clinics without adequate resources will be able to approach funding bodies with these independent reports, and to lobby for increased funding resources to bring their clinics up to the standard.  The objective is that these reviews will result in beneficial changes to the clinics leading to high quality healthcare delivery as standard at all major Cystic Fibrosis clinics in Australia.

The evaluation teams for the Peer Review  are representatives of adult and paediatric CF physicians and the MDT team, Physiotherapists, Dietitians,Socila Workers and Nurses. Consumer represenatation is by CF adult, a CF parent and by CFA represenatives.  It is important to note that individuals are not being paid for their time, and have volunteered their time and expertise over several months to assist with the project.  Cystic Fibrosis Australia thanks these enthusiastic professionals and consumers for their time.
